O.O. John Reed

Mr. Reed served as a combat hospital corpsman in both World War II and the Korean War. While being a disabled Vet, Mr. Reed was neither disabled in spirit, nor service. His after military service continued as:

  • Insurance Salesman
  • Teacher
  • Director of Welfare, Hazlet
  • Director/Founder of The Food Pantry
  • And Various Organizations, Both Military and Civilian

He was selected by Governor Whitman to visit Korea with other key businessmen and former Korean War veterans.

Mr. Reed, was a husband, father and a mentor to many. He was a humble human being who spent a lifetime of public service, mostly unpaid using as a motto, “God first, others second and don’t take yourself too serious.”

Mr. Reed founded and served as Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Trustees until his retirement from the pantry in 2005. Mr. Isaiah G. Cooper assumed responsibility as Executive Director of the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry when Mr. Reed retired.

Current Director of the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry, Mr. Isaiah G. Cooper, said of Mr. Reed, “He was the foundation on which this country was built, the inspiration for the construction of a new building and a role model who had no peers.” We are truly saddened by Mr. Reed’s passing on April 23, 2006 but he will always be remembered.
